Camille in the park

This past weekend – I was very fortunate to capture a few images of the amazing Camille Bracher, dancer with the Royal Ballet – just before she boarded a plane back to London.

We went for a serene nature scene in one of the local parks – where the rocks and the trees provided an interesting and rugged backdrop to Camille’s graceful moves.

I often find that nature scenes can be a photographic challenge in terms of nature overwhelming the subject of the image – especially because of the many rich colors and the inherent chaos that nature is. But by switching to black & white – the eye will find some peace and automatically focus on the contrast (or the parallels) between the human form and the structures of nature. Obviously it’s depending on individual preferences – but I usually go for the simplification whenever I can. I remember the mantra when taking photography classes: 1) strong subject, 2) focus attention on the subject, 3) simplify. Guess they were right!
