Impossible images

Shutter blending is an old photographic technique combining two images – one captured with a slow shutter speed to create motion blur – and another captured with a fast shutter speed to freeze the motion. So it’s a fun and challenging way to play with the concept of time beyond just documenting an event as it happened – adding a bit of creativity and maybe causing us to see something that would otherwise remain undiscovered.

Here’s a couple of examples from the Joburg Ballet production of Carmen, The Ballet – running at Joburg Theatre until Sun 15 April.
